We had beautiful, snowy weather for this Breckenridge Ski Engagement Session. While visiting Colorado for winter vacation, Rob and Natalia wanted engagement photos while skiing at Breckenridge Ski Resort. Natalia and Rob live in the U.S., but are actually from two different countries. Rob is from Canada and Natalia is from Costa Rica, and their paths crossed to bring them together! One of the coolest parts of my job as a photographer is hearing all the ways people meet and end up falling in love!
Breckenridge Ski Engagement Session
Prior to skiing, I met up with Rob and Natalia for sunrise engagement photos near Lake Dillon. We caught an alpenglow which is always breathtaking to see! If you’re not familiar with an alpenglow, it’s when the sun is rising or setting and lights up the top of a mountain range. You’ll notice the pink hue on the mountains in the photo above of Natalia and Rob! They were able to get in a few different outfits for the first part of their session to have a variety of winter looks for their engagement photos. After starting off their session in their “normal clothes”, they donned their ski gear and we headed to Breckenridge to hit the slopes!
It turned out to be a super snowy day at Breckenridge. The snow was beautiful and added a magical winter feel to their photos. It was gorgeous! I had a blast skiing and photographing Natalia and Rob on this snow-filled day at Breckenridge!
Tips for Ski Engagement Photos in Breckenridge
Breckenridge is a very popular ski resort town in Colorado, and for good reason! It also means that you have to be intentional with your locations and the time of day you plan your session for. I work with all of my couples beforehand to make a plan that gives them the best ski engagement session experience possible! Here are a few of my top tips for ski engagement photos in Breckenridge:
Start your session earlier in the morning. The sun is softer and generally, the resort will be less busy, earlier in the day. For Natalia and Rob, we started with a sunrise session near the lake. Then we were at Breckenridge right around opening time at 9 a.m. It worked out perfectly!
Head towards less popular sections of the resort to avoid having a bunch of skiing and snowboarding strangers in your photos. Since I’m familiar with the trails at Breck, I guide my clients to less popular areas of the resort to make sure we have space and some privacy. Yes, I’ll always make sure there are runs that you and your partner feel comfortable skiing on too!
Embrace the weather. Some days in Colorado are sunny, bluebird ski days and other days are overcast, snowy days. It was chilly and snowing during Natalia and Rob’s ski session at Breckenridge, but they fully embraced the snowfall! There are times when a weather call is necessary, but the snow created dreamy, snow-filled photos for these two. It’s like they were in their own snowglobe!
